Hi, I'm Emma!

The soup-obsessed cook behind CookSoups

My Story

Growing up in rural Vermont, some of my earliest memories are of standing on a wooden stool beside my grandmother's cast-iron pot, watching her transform humble ingredients into something magical. Her kitchen always smelled of simmering broth, fresh herbs from the garden, and the promise of warmth on cold New England evenings.

"Soup feeds the soul," she'd tell me, stirring slowly with a wooden spoon that had seen decades of family meals. Those words stuck with me through culinary school, through ten years of working in restaurant kitchens from Burlington to Boston, and eventually led me here — to CookSoups.

After years of the demanding restaurant life, I realized what I truly wanted was to share the kind of cooking that had shaped me: unpretentious, comforting, and made with love. The kind of food you make for people you care about. The kind of food that makes a house feel like home.

Why Soup?

People often ask me why I dedicated an entire website to soup. The answer is simple: there's nothing a good bowl of soup can't fix.

Soup is the original comfort food. It's been nourishing humans for thousands of years, crossing every culture and cuisine. A bowl of soup can be:

  • A warm hug on a difficult day
  • A budget-friendly way to feed a family
  • A creative canvas for any ingredient
  • A nutritious meal that practically cooks itself
  • A connection to traditions and memories

Whether it's a classic chicken noodle soup for a sick friend, an elegant mushroom bisque for date night, or a hearty vegetable stew to use up the week's produce — soup is endlessly versatile and universally loved.

My Cooking Philosophy

"Every soup tells a story. Make yours worth sharing."

I believe cooking should be joyful, not stressful. My recipes are designed to build your confidence in the kitchen, not test it. I'd rather you successfully make a simple soup that your family loves than struggle with a complicated recipe that leaves you frustrated.

I also believe in:

  • Seasonal cooking — Using ingredients at their peak for the best flavor
  • Reducing waste — Many of my soups are perfect for using up vegetables before they go bad
  • Feeding others — Soup is meant to be shared, whether with family, neighbors, or those in need
  • Making memories — The best recipes are the ones that bring people together
